Test Results

Snoopy's bloodwork came back, and his glucose level in the blood is normal, which means it is not diabetes. The Doctor is not confirming Fanconi Syndrome as of yet, he wants to call a specialist, and he wants me to collect a few random urine samples this week to ensure the high sugar level wasn't just a one time thing. Then we can be sure and move forward with treatment.
My whole problem with this? I now have more information on Fanconi Syndrome than he does. I spent my weekend scouring the internet for information on it and treatment options....I had to give him the website address with the treatment protocol! This makes me a bit unsure of his skills to actually treat the disease. I do not want to stand back and do nothing while Snoopy's kidneys slowly fail. I want him to have the best life possible, and from what I've read, we can control this with a high protein diet and vitamin supplements. We'll see what happens this week, the doctor I am dealing with is just covering the regular Vet's vacation, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and time to do his research...our regular Vet will be back in a few weeks anyway.

  • At least you know what you need to do. Some folks may baulk at your switching vets, but I believe as you that our pets are family and if they aren't receiving the care they deserve - then good bye.

  • Grr...this sucks. I'm sorry, Cheryl. I am still confident this will work out. I agree with Dedicated, if there is someone more qualified...
