Halloween Memory...

Halloween is my favorite holiday, anyone who knows me, knows this bit of trivia. Growing up in New Jersey, it was usually cold on Halloween...we were poor, my Mother was raising us 3 on her own pretty much, so we always went "shopping" for a costume at my Aunt Doris' house. She had a large barrel in a closet under the stairs, full of all kinds of dress up stuff...a Mother to FIVE kids..she knew the value of the words "hand-me-down"! So, while I longed for a store bought, plastic flame catching costume with the hard plastic mask that had 2 very small nose holes for breathing..I never got one. I always got a previously worn dog costume, or the charcoal on the face hobo mask. (You wouldn't catch me in a princess costume!) We always carried a pillowcase for our candy, it held a LOT of loot, and easily slung over the shoulder. We went out in carloads with our cousins, and didn't have to worry about having our candy checked before we could eat it. The best house, by far, was Grandma & Grandpa Schnieder's. Lined up on top of the TV set, for Grandkids only, were individual Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, each one with a shiny quarter taped to the top!! I believe this is where my love for chocolate and peanut butter began! I have continued the tradition, and have been giving these out to neices & nephews, and sometimes to my older Sister as well..it always brings a smile to our face, and a fond memory of our precious Grandma Schneider.

Happy Halloween!

We did not get ONE trick or treater, so I guess it will be up to Snoopy and I to eat all the candy in the bucket!

For the Brophy's ....

Last night, I went to my friend Dennis & Lynda's house after work to visit and eat. They are parents to THREE male Doxies, Freon, Lenny, and Woody, AKA "The Boys". When I got home, Snoopy was ALL over my clothes sniffing out where I had been, and what other pooches I had been visiting without him! Thanks Brophy's, I enjoyed our visit, great dinner of comfort food, let's do it again soon!

Trick or Treat!

Seeing double? I think not.....here is Snoopy, dressed as..what else? Snoopy! I was in Super Target a few weeks back and allowed my friend Lauren talk me into getting this for Snoopy for Halloween. Other than the occasional holiday tee shirt, or a sweater when it's cold, I normally do NOT dress my dog up...so it remains to be seen of we actually go out in public with this on. Snoopy is not thrilled about the whole ordeal, he was patient though....and sat patiently through the pictures, then when I started taking it off of him, he was using his mouth to help!

Mission Accomplished!

Note: This post has nothing to do with Snoopy, it is all about Mommy! I finished the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer 3 Day walk - all 60 miles - on Sunday at Villanova University, PA! It was an incredible experience that taught me a lot about who I am , and how much I have inside. It was not easy, there were times when I did not think I could take another step, but I found something deep inside that kept me moving through the pain. (See bloody sock pic!)The Philadelphia walk had over 3500 walkers, and we raised $6.6 Million dollars for breast cancer research!! YAY!! I am doing it again next year!

Mommy's Journey

Snoopy has gone off to "Camp Joe & Pete" for the weekend, as I am about to embark on the biggest journey of my life, to date. Today I fly to Philadlephia to participate in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk. Starting tomorrow at 06:00EST, I will be walking 60 miles over the course of 3 days, ending Sunday at 17:00EST at Villanova University Stadium. Appreciate everyone's prayers during this time, as I push my body and my mind as far as they will take me. I know Snoopy is in good hands, so I will not have to worry about him while I am walking.

Sunbeam!

Basenji's are from Africa, so they are naturally very acclimated to the heat, and Snoopy loves it! He will stop in the middle of a walk, and just lay down on the grass in the direct sunlight...even if the temp is 100 in the shade! He loves it, and will move out of the shade to be in it! In the house, as he lays around like a precious lazy lump..he always finds "his sunbeam" to lay in, and will crawl across the room as that piece of sun moves with the time, so that he is always laying in it. Sometimes it baffles me, he feels hot to the touch....why does he continue to lay in it? He'll get up and go get a drink, and go lay right back in that square. I have seen him scratch at the sunlight shining on a wall....as if he were trying to coax it off the wall and onto the floor so he can lay in it!
